Utah Terrain and Animal Habitat

Utah possesses a wide range of terrain including vast deserts and rugged mountain ranges.  The Great Salt Lake is in the north part of the state.  This area offers outdoor adventurers many exciting outlets: skiing, hiking, snowmobiling, fishing, photography and HUNTING!

Knowing the land is the key to locating the ideal trophy. It’s important that hunters take advantage of the services provided by our featured guides and outfitters because they definitely know the land and the local wildlife.

Utah Wasalch Mountains

Rocky and exposed mountains that are as beautiful as anywhere else in the world, and flat, wide-open plains that seem to go on for miles and miles into the horizon.  Utah mountain elevations soar up to 13,500 feet!  The Wasalch Mountain Range runs top to bottom of Utah and the Uinta Mountains are in the northeast corner bordering Wyoming.  The western part of the state is desert land and part of the Great Basin.  The desert lands to the east are a continuation of the Colorado Plateau.  You will see vast, rugged canyons and mesas in the east.  The map below is specifically for planning an Elk hunt, but you can see where the different regions are located.

Utah Hunting Regulations

Utah is a draw state for big game hunts.  The application for the draw is typically in February on through the beginning of March.  The results for the draw are usually available the end of May.  Of course, a hunting license is also required and can be purchased online.   More information

Fortunately for hunters, there are options to hunt in Utah if you do not win the draw.  At private hunting preserves, certain big game hunts are available with guaranteed opportunity.  Our guides and outfitters are well versed in local hunting regulations and hunting seasons, but for more detailed information regarding hunting regulations and dates, visit www.wildlife.utah.gov.
