Out on a Limb Guides and Outfitter is located in the Northwest corner of New Mexico, near Bloomfield, NM. The owner and head guide, Bill Ritchey, is passionate about hunting and providing the very best hunting experience for each hunter. Bill and each of his guides are long-term residents in the areas they hunt, so they are familiar with the game, the most productive hunting methods and what it takes for a successful New Mexico hunt. Bill says, “when we are not actively hunting or guiding, we are exploring the wilderness for new hunting areas.”
Our hunts are conducted on both private and public land. There are monthly specials available, so be sure to ask for information now. We provide:
Out on a Limb Guides and Outfitter provides incredible black bear hunts! We take bear in a variety of color phases, from blonde to jet black. We use well trained hounds to tree the big bears, and hunters enjoy comfortable tent accommodations in 10 X 12 cabin tents and travel trailers as needed. Most hunts are conducted in the north-central mountains of New Mexico at about 6000 feet above sea level. Hunts are 4 days long, fully guided and run from mid August through November. These hunts book up quickly, so contact us today to secure your hunt!
All mountain lion hunts are 1 on 1, personally guided by an outfitter. All lion hunts are with my pack of hounds i raised and trained myself from pups. Cougar hunts start the 1st of October through the end of March or until the quota is met. Due to the fact that snow is necessary in your hunt an on-call hunt is preferred, but not required.
Our hunting method is driving in snow until a track is cut, from there the hounds are released and we follow on ATV, snowmobiles, or on foot.
The New Mexico elk herd is rising and trophy bulls are produced every year. we offer fair chase hunting from blinds, and spot and stock. we scout throughout the year enabling us to give our hunters an unforgettable hunt.
The terrain is over 6000 feet elevation, but not too steep. It's a good idea to take up jogging or walking before your hunt. Most hunts are 2 hunters to 1 guide, but 1 on 1 can be arranged if requested.
We hunt our mule deer in northern New Mexico using archery, muzzleload, and rifle. we use blinds and spot and stalk, but spot and stalk is more effective. we average scores of 150, but thre are bigger ones around.
