Thunder Bow Outfitters is family owned and operated by Mike, Bobby Jo and Ron Robinson. We are based in North West Montana, called Swan Valley, Montana. We are permitted in several areas in Western Montana, Bitterroot Selway Wilderness (1.3 million acres), Swan River State Forest, Beaverhead National Forest (Pioneer Mountains).  These areas are known worldwide for their concentrations of trophy Elk, Mule & Whitetail Deer, Moose, Big Horn Sheep, Mountain Goat, Mountain Lion, and four color phases of Black Bear.  Antelope, Moose, Mt. Goat, and Bighorn Sheep require special draw permits.

In addition to the exceptional guided big game hunts in Montana, we also offer private ranch hunting in New Mexico and Utah for Elk, Bear, Mule Deer and Turkey.   We are not booking agents.  Thunder Bow Outfitters operate every camp.  We like to be versatile and to be able to provide different types of hunts and vacations to all our happy clients.  Thunder Bow Outfitters is a full time business.  Our summer vacations include fishing trips, horseback riding, photography, relaxation, hiking and camping.  We are blessed to live and work in a place only some people can dream of.

Spring Bear Hunts in Montana:

Swan Valley is home to the highest concentration of Black Bear in Montana. May is the best month for hunting Bear. At this time of the year, the Bears emerge from hibernation and can be seen on the lower slopes below the snow capped peaks. We hunt mountains side meadows, clear-cuts, logging roads, avalanche slides and valley bottoms where Bears can be found feeding on spring grasses, buds, grubs and winter kills. Bears are usually found by glassing these areas and careful stalk is made taking terrain and wind direction into consideration. All hunts are strictly fair chase.

Mt. Lion (Cougar) Hunting in Montana:

One of our favorites. This hunt begins December 1st and continues until quota for the nit is reached. we usually have snow and the Mountain Lions are down where the Deer and Elk sinter. We hunt the Swan Valley and Bitterroot/Selway. We have four different units to hunt which gives us a BIG area to choose from along with four different quota systems. We chase the Mountain Lions with well trained hound. We take only mature animals. Most Mountain Lion taken meet or exceed the Pope & Young minimum. This is truly a hunt you will never forget. Success rates average 90% or better the last ten years. Very limited openings for this hunt two years in advance is not too soon. Guaranteed License. License must be purchased by August 31st.

Deer and Elk Licenses are guaranteed with Outfitter/Must purchase by March 15.

Archery

Season opens (Archery Elk, Mule Deer, Whitetail Deer, Antelope) the first week of September and runs through the middle of October, six week long season. This is one of the most exciting times to hunt elk.  Exceptional trophies are taken during archery season. Bulls are often bugled to within 30 yards or less. Shot opportunity on Elk runs very high on elk on this hunt.

Rifle

Season opens the last week of October and runs until Sunday after Thanksgiving, 5 weeks long. We have one of the best populations of Elk in Montana. This is one of the few states you get to hunt mule deer during the rut! We have a special draw area for trophy mule deer. this is possibly the best area in Montana for a 30 inch mule dear. Shot opportunity in the last 2 years over 90%. At mature mule deer bucks. Great trophy potential for both elk & deer. Don't miss out on this hunt. Now is the time! 5 years may be too late.

Swan Valley is the home to #1 Montana typical state record whitetail deer 204+B.C. Our Whitetail hunts take place in the Swan Valley between the Bob Marshall Wilderness and Mission Mountain Wilderness in Northwest Montana. Numbers of deer are very high. Quality of deer is some of the best in Montana.

New Mexico Private Ranch Elk Hunts:

We hunt unit 46, which is all private land with some of the ranches bordering National Forest. Unit 46 is made up mostly of Mora County, which is north central New Mexico. All elk tags in unit 46 are landowner sponsored. Resident & non-resident alike must purchase one of these landowner tags to hunt unit 46.

Late season Elk Hunts in New Mexico are also available.  Hunt in January & February, long after most have called it quits for the season.

Hunt Merriam Turkeys in northern New Mexico on private ranches with little or no pressure with great callers and hunters. Liberal season with beautiful mountain scenery, great accommodations and food. 2 bird limit.

Montana Private Ranch Buffalo Hunting:
